Ramsgate Blitz Weekend

Unfortunately we’ve had to take the difficult decision to suspend arrangements for the Ramsgate Blitz Weekend on Saturday/Sunday 22/23 August. We will constantly review Government advice and if possible we will do our best to bypass deadlines and obtain necessary licences for the event to run on the same dates.

If you would like to take part in the event as a reenactor or you have a display, could we please ask that you indicate your interest by registering with us using the form below and we will contact you as soon as we know the situation. By doing this you will not be committing to the event, just helping us to get in touch quickly.

A reminder of what the event is about

Ramsgate Tunnels is a project by Ramsgate Heritage Regeneration Trust, which is a volunteer led registered charity focused on preserving and presenting Ramsgate’s heritage for the benefit of the people.

Ramsgate Blitz Weekend is a totally free to the public two-day event commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the first Blitz Raid of WWII. On that fateful day, 500 bombs were dropped on Ramsgate in five minutes, but miraculously only 31 people died thanks to shelter provided by the Deep Level Air Raid Precaution Tunnels which later became home to 2,000 people.

The event is based around civilian aspects of WWII and we are looking for period reenactors, displays, groups etc. to take part. We will be running a stage outside the tunnels on both days. On the Sunday there will be a commemorative parade and service with reading of names of those who were killed on that fateful day. On both days there will be displays inside and outside the tunnels.

We are now offering reenactors who attend a genuine wartime experience of sleeping overnight in the Air Raid Precaution tunnels in our newly constructed bunk beds. These have been added recently for overnight youth group experiences and are 6ft by 2ft. If you prefer, you can use your own tent, van etc. We have staff toilet facilities and an onsite café during opening hours. We have also received some grant funding and may be able to contribute towards expenses. Please email us for details at

Whilst we are primarily civilian and are not looking for general traders, at our discretion we can accept trade stalls themed around WWII / 1940s, especially if recommended by reenactors. We will also accept military reenactors and displays on the same basis.

Please complete the form below and we’ll keep in touch
